A Devastating Flash Flood in Nepal

Nepal, August 27, 2026: A devastating flash flood took place in central Nepal .The disaster struck on the morning of August 26 ,2026. A massive glacier collapsed and triggered a landslide near the Tibet border. The incident flooded much of the Rasuwa district. The Bhotekoshi River swelled up and water gushed into villages. Trees were uprooted, roads were blocked, and many houses were totally destroyed. Plenty of cattle were washed away. At least 579 persons were killed and 2000 people were missing. Flood-affected people were taken to safe places. The government took active steps for relief work. Military forces started rescue operations. Food, medicine, and drinking water were distributed among the victims. NDRRMA officials confirmed the rescue of more than 11,000 survivors. Over 22,000 security personnel were combing through thick debris across five districts.( Sixteen) 16 deployed helicopters are supporting active search operations in choked valleys. Prime Minister Balendra Shah linked the historic disaster directly to climate change. The Prime Minister called for urgent international cooperation and aid. Local agencies faced over 2.4 million tons of leftover wreckage. Critical shortages of emergency relief supplies persist in isolated pockets. Communities in Nuwakot and nearby areas are conducting mass burials. The missing included hundreds of domestic and foreign tourists.
